Synchronize! Pro X is a professional-strength file synchronization and backup utility for Mac OS X.
As a way of introducing you to Synchronize! Pro X, you may use its basic file synchronization and backup features free for folders containing 10MBytes or less. Just download Synchronize! Pro X and try it out.
Synchronize! Pro X gives you unlimited use of all features requires the purchase of the program, which is $99.95, plus shipping if applicable. Synchronize! Pro X has many uses.
As an example, you can use Synchronize! Pro X to backup your OS X startup disk to another hard disk, so that the backup disk is bootable.
You can sync your home folder with a file server, or your PowerBook, or a FireWire disk, so that the files on both are up-to-date. Synchronize! Pro X actions can be scheduled to be performed at night or at any preset time, once or periodically, without anyone present.
Passwords can be supplied automatically for file server connections.
Native on Intel Macs - Synchronize! Pro X runs natively on Intel Macs. Bootable backups can be made to both FireWire and USB 2.0 external hard drives. Intel Macs will boot from backups on either type of drive, while PPC Macs will not boot from USB drives.
While you can use Synchronize! Pro X to put a bootable backup of a PPC Mac on one partition and a bootable backup of an Intel Mac on a different partition of the same hard drive, and you can start up the PPC or Intel Mac from the appropriate partition on that drive, you can't start up an Intel Mac from a bootable backup of a PPC Mac, or vice-versa.
Leopard compatible - Synchronize! Pro X works on Leopard, Tiger and Panther. On Leopard and Tiger, Synchronize! Pro X copies "extended attributes", which are attached to many files.
Bootable OS X backups - Synchronize! Pro X backs up your OS X startup disk to another hard disk, so that the backup disk is bootable. Make a copy of your system so that you can start up any Macintosh from the backup, or move your current OS X system from one computer to another - even to a different model Macintosh.
Speed - On Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and later, Synchronize! Pro X scans folders as much as 10 times faster. New technology makes it possible to reduce the 10 minutes or more for a bootable backup scan to a typical time of under 1 minute.
Real-time syncs - Synchronize! Pro X watches for folder changes and copies files when changes occur. Available on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and later.
Archive old files - Keep old files in an archive, so that you can go back to them if you need to. Archived files can be grouped for convenient burning to CD. As the archive fills up, the oldest files in the archive are automatically removed to make space for newer files.
Quickly update your backup - Subsequent backups copy only the files that have changed, instead of copying all your files over again, so that updating the backup is much faster.
Schedule your backup - Run your backup automatically at a convenient time, when you're not using your computer.
Synchronize! Pro X has many other uses, too. As an example, you can sync your home folder with a file server, or your PowerBook, or a FireWire disk, so that the files on both are up-to-date.
Here are some key features of "Synchronize Pro X":
Fully supports Mac OS X
· Compatible with Leopard, Tiger and Panther (Mac OS X 10.5, 10.4 and 10.3).
· Copies long Unicode file names.
· Uses pre-emptive multitasking to speed file transfer.
· Copies file permissions, owners and groups.
· Copies files bigger than 2 GB.
· Bootable Backup
Create a bootable backup of your Mac OS X system on another hard disk. Most FireWire disks can be used to boot a backup of OS X. An initial full system backup is typically under 20 minutes, and updating the backup usually takes less than five minutes, because only the files that have changed are copied.
· Fast Scan
With Fast Scan, incremental backups or syncs are 10X faster. Only those folders which have changed files are scanned, speeding a bootable backup scan enormously, for example. Available on OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and later, on directly-mounted (non-network) disks.
· Archive Old Files
Keep old files that have been replaced or deleted in an archive, so that you can go back to them if you need to. With hard disks being as large as they are today, you may never fill up your backup disk, but if you do, the oldest files will automatically be deleted to make room for new files.
· Easy Setup
Set folders to backup/sync by dragging them from the desktop.
· Convenient Display of Files
Displays a hierarchical list of files to be copied, similar to the Finder. Files can be removed from the list (not copied) or deleted.
· Flexible File & Folder Selection
Use many different criteria to include or exclude files and folders.
· Sync many folders
Choose a number of files and folders o backup/sync and include them in a single operation.
· Thorough
Syncs deleted files, which means that files deleted from one folder are also deleted from the other.
· Backup
Easy one-way backup, including deletion of old files.
· Data Safety
Checks for conflicts (simultaneous changes to both documents) and provides notification before backup/sync proceeds.
Automatic
Synchronize! Pro X will automatically do the following...
· launch when backup/sync is needed; periodically, or when files are changed.
· connect to server disks, using File Sharing, AppleShare, NFS, or SMB (Windows).
· remember and supply file server passwords.
· unmount remote disks when finished.
· quit when done.
· log activity for later review.
Automated
· backup/sync can be scheduled, once or periodically.
· real-time backup, when files change.
· supports AppleScript initiation of backup/sync
Limitations:
· 7 days trial.
What's New in This Release:
· Added "Fast scan", which speeds up folder scans enormously on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and later.
· Added folder watching, so that real-time backups can be triggered when folder contents change. See the Start Options for details. Available on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and later.
· Added backup monitoring, so that email notification for a backup that occurs, has errors, is missed, or doesn't complete is sent. Status and logs for backups can be accessed using any web browser. Emails are sent even if the computer scheduled to do the backup is inoperative
